Isamu Haruyama 9p to visit Cyprus in October

Mr Isamu Haruyama, 9-dan professional Go player, will visit Cyprus from 7 to 10 October 2005. Mr Haruyama's visit is sponsored by the Japanese Go Association (Nihon Ki-in) and the Japan Foundation. It is a great honour for us to have Mr Haruyama teach us about Go and we very much look forward to having him.

You can read about Mr Haruyama on Gobase.org and you can see some of his games there. Take a look at the link:

Farewell to a Go lover and great person

I was shocked to hear today that ex-president of the Empty Sky Go Club, my friend Greg Lefler has passed away. Greg has helped restart the Go club at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where I was lucky to learn about this game.

I will always remember Greg as the great person who loved the game so much and tried to help anyone learn it. He would always arrange for great chinese food to accompany our Go meetings and he would host Go meetings at his apartment whenever the library was closed.

This is the least I can do in memory of Greg. May he rest in peace.

See "A tribute to Greg Lefler" to get an idea on what a great person he was.

Cyprus gets top "wins per games played" percentage at EGC 2005

An interesting statistic offered on the page of the Finland Go Association, shows Cyprus having the top "wins per games played" percentage at 80%.

Partly due to the small number of games played, but nevertheless a pleasing statistic :)
